PROVO, Utah, April 10, 2024 – Smarty, the address data intelligence leader, announces today the launch of US Census Block and Tract Data, a set of updates to Smarty's US Address Enrichment solutions. US Census Block and Tract Data is a cloud-native solution that will allow organizations to append the geographic data found in U.S. Census Block and Tract information into accurately geocoded addresses.

Smarty’s US Census Block and Tract Data offers a simple and rapid solution for accessing essential geographic details such as Census Blocks, Tracts, location names, statuses, and additional Census ID information—mirroring the capabilities of the FFIEC Geocode tool. Organizations utilize this data to aggregate demographic information for crucial business decisions, ensure compliance with government regulations, assess loan eligibility, refine tax calculations, explore new sales territories, and distinguish between incorporated and unincorporated areas.

Using Smarty's US Census Block and Tract Data, users will gain access to informative data points like:

  • Census 2020 Block ID (15-character numeric ID or a nested subset depending upon geocoding accuracy)
  • Census Place names and Census Place IDs for incorporated and unincorporated communities
  • Census Civil Division (CCD) names and CCD IDs
  • Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) Names and IDs

“Our US Census Block and Tract Data will be a great asset for our clients. This is especially true for those businesses in the financial and healthcare industries," said Berkley Charlton, Chief Product Officer at Smarty. "This dataset utilizes the accuracy of Smarty's US Rooftop Geocoding, which can pinpoint census Blocks and Tracts with precision, making compliance with governmental regulations easy."

Each US Census Block and Tract Data plan uses Smarty's US Rooftop Geocoding. This means 100% of the addresses entered by users will be verified and standardized for superior data quality. Moreover, Smarty's US Census Block and Tract Data utilizes SmartyKey™, a persistent unique identifier. SmartyKey makes relating data and blending address intelligence a breeze and eliminates duplicate and alias locations to maximize accuracy.

"An ongoing challenge for many of our clients is connecting Census data to addresses in a timely manner," said Jonathan Oliver, Founder and CEO of Smarty. "With US Census Block and Tract Data, not only will organizations be able to connect crucial Census demographic data to a verified address, but they'll also be able to process billions of addresses at incredible speeds."

Smarty customers avoid USPS rate limiting

TLDR: Smarty customers won’t feel a thing from the new USPS API restrictions because Smarty doesn’t depend on USPS’s real-time APIs to do address verification. We’ve always used our own, powerful, hyper-accurate data to back our tools and support client needs. While USPS is capping its address verification service at 60 requests per hour and retiring the legacy Web Tools API on January 25, Smarty keeps verifying addresses at full speed on our own infrastructure. We ingest USPS data updates monthly and run verification internally, so USPS API changes, rate limits, or even a temporary USPS outage don’t ripple into your workflows.
Provider data accuracy: Regulatory compliance and hidden network risks

Welcome to part one of our new blog series on provider location data—an exploration into the messy, high-stakes world of healthcare compliance, address accuracy, and network adequacy. To kick things off, we sat down with Dave Medlock, founder of Maven One Health and a contributing thought leader, to discuss why clean provider data is essential for achieving peak regulatory compliance and meeting requirements with ease, thereby avoiding serious consequences if it isn’t done correctly. Here’s what he had to say about understanding CMS, state DOIs, continuous audits, rosters, data decay, messy inputs, and the future of address data itself.
